An armed engagement between the U.S. 7th Cavalry and forces of the Lakota, Northern Cheyenne, and Arapaho tribes commonly referred to as "Custer's Last Stand" occurred on June 25, 1876 along the Little Bighorn River in Montana. Elements of the 7th Cavalry were annihilated.
